Note Identification (Piano)
The three primary goals for pianists in the beginning level are to learn to identify pitches, establish basic counting skills, and learn various hand positions. The chart below enables students to identify any pitch within the grand staff.
Important practices to learn to identify pitches include:
NEVER write pitch names in your music or on your keyboard.
Memorize the Lines and Spaces chart by saying “Treble Clef, Right Hand, Lines (or Spaces), [then say the full form for either lines or spaces]” or “Bass Clef, Left Hand, Lines (or Spaces),
[then say the full form for either lines or spaces].”
Say the note names in every song you play, first finding the names by counting the lines or spaces from the bottom up.
