Grieg’s Piano Concerto

Grieg's Piano Concerto is a beloved Romantic classic composed by the Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg in 1868. Arthur Rubinstein (1887-1982) was a Polish-born American classical pianist. He is widely considered one of the greatest pianists of the twentieth century and was well known for his performances of the Romantic repertoire. He was born in Łódź, Poland, and began studying the piano at the age of five. Rubinstein made his concert debut in Berlin in 1906 and quickly established himself as one of the leading pianists of his generation.

Rubinstein moved to Paris in 1912 and began to tour internationally. He made his American debut in New York City in 1916, and would go on to perform in major cities throughout the United States and Europe. In addition to performing, Rubinstein was an active recording artist and composed several pieces for the piano. He was the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the French Legion of Honor. Rubinstein died in Switzerland in 1982 at the age of 95.
