“Lazybones” is a Tin Pan Alley song written in 1933 by Hoagy Carmichael with lyrics by Johnny Mercer. The song was written during the Great Depression and is about a man who is too lazy to work and would rather sleep all day. The song has been covered by many artists including Louis Armstrong, Bing Crosby, and Leon Redbone.

Hoagy Carmichael was an American composer, pianist, singer, and actor. He is best known for composing the music for “Stardust,” “Georgia on My Mind,” “The Nearness of You,” and “Heart and Soul.” Carmichael was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1971 and the Big Band and Jazz Hall of Fame in 1986.
