Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah

Leonard Cohen was a Canadian singer-songwriter, poet, and novelist. He was born in 1934 in Montreal and raised in a Jewish family. He began writing poetry and songs as a teenager and released his first collection of poems, Let Us Compare Mythologies, in 1956. His first album, Songs of Leonard Cohen, was released in 1967. Throughout the 1970s and 80s, he released several more albums and toured extensively. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2008 and released his final studio album, You Want It Darker, in 2016.

Cohen was known for his poetic and lyrical songwriting, which often dealt with themes of faith, love, and loss. He wrote and performed songs that are now considered classics, such as “Hallelujah” and “Suzanne”. His work has had a lasting influence on the music world, and he has been covered and sampled by a wide range of artists, from Bob Dylan to R.E.M. He passed away in 2016, but his music and legacy remain.

Esparza is a Tony Award nominee and has been the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including a Drama Desk Award and an Outer Critics Circle Award.
